Our university was founded on May 18, 2018 as second state university in City of Sivas to contribute to science and technology with research activities that respond to the needs of our age. SBTU trusts the values of human race (i.e. tolerance and understanding, non-discrimination, equality, transparency and inclusion). Internationalization and modernization are among the main strategies of the university. Overall vision and mission of STBU is established based on these strategies which could be achieved through international activities and mobility offered by Erasmus Programs. To set an intercultural bridge, dialog and mutual understanding, establishing internationalization and modernization is one of the most important steps.
Due to security problems around Middle East (war, local conflicts, refugee problems, etc.), security and defense needs around Turkey is increasing rapidly. Turkey is a NATO member and is located on the eastern border of NATO. It is one of the rare democratic countries in the region and it has a critical role for the safety of surrounding nations, especially Europe. Defense industry in Turkey is developing rapidly parallel to these circumstances. Consequently, SBTU is focused on becoming a major university specialized in defense technology. Project cooperation protocols have been made with local defense foundations such as TEI, BAYRAKTAR, ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, TUBITAK SAGE, TUBITAK UZAY, which are high national and international reputation in defense technology. The cooperation with the private sector will empower our excellence and the further regional development. Next step will be extending these protocols to international level. Our main strategy is to penetrate the international researches and studies by offering interdisciplinary master and doctorate program in defense technology for international students. SBTU has no undergraduate students yet. Currently, SBTU has only one master and one doctoral interdisciplinary program in the field of defense technology. In the following period, SBTU will focus on master and doctorate programs and will increase the number of graduate programs. Thus, SBTU plans to acquire a research and development university identity in the international arena. School of Foreign Languages was founded primarily to provide English support for master and doctoral program. These actions were done in line with our internationalization efforts.
SBTU aims to increase the attainment level to contribute in educating graduates and researchers who will promote progress in Europe. SBTU encourages the students and the staff for the international mobility to become an international university recognized by the major academic circle and attain high quality in our studies. SBTU will support equal and equitable access and opportunities to participants (paying attention to the inclusion of those with fewer opportunities) and recognition of all credits (based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System – ECTS) Moreover, SBTU plans its future campuses for hosting the visiting students and the staff. In the new campus area, there will be a hostel and an activity center for the international students and the staff. This would also create more opportunities for further teaching collaborations. SBTU plans supporting students to experience international exchange in the following years and switching the language of instruction to English.
